Kind words can heal

I was checking out all my FB pages I follow and I came across the new mini challenge on the More than words challenge page basically you create a card, tag,ATC (Artist trading card) or postcard and upload it on FB under the challenge post in the comments section...see Photos below...

so I thought I have all these really cool supplies and I was just going to play.. I pulled out a bunch of supplies from scrapsalot and a bunch of random stuff ...old book pages, buttons, metal pieces I think they were for jewelry but who knows LOL drywall tape, glass beads Oh and a piece of broken chain I'm pretty sure there is a brad that had a broken back. so here is a look at the finished  Artist trading card...

Okay first layer cardboard or something very sturdy I used recycled cereal box cut to 2.5 x.3.5 .next step was collage I used old book pages and used Matte medium to adhere them...  next layer was texture paste...I let it dry while I was trying to figure out which items I was going to use on my project.

Next step I added my drywall tape then added all the items (buttons, metal, beads and such) to my project, I did use Matte medium to adhere them...this time it took awhile for it to dry so I kind of sped this up with my heat tool LOL Caution if your not careful and heat one spot too long it will bubble.

Next step adding Gesso I covered my entire project with gesso just to make it easier for me...some places just a very light layer. again we wait for it to dry hmm sometimes I think I spend more time waiting for it to dry then I do actually creating it LOL Now I added colors I really love Distress oxide spray but as of right now I only have two colors but they work so well together...I could have added more using oxide ink and just smooshed them on my craft mat and used a water brush...that would have worked too.. after I had the colors the way I wanted I added black Water Soluble Oil Pastels all the way around the edge then dry brushed some white acrylic paint on some of the surfaces for highlights it made the texture really pop!

the last touches where the moth/butterfly, I had a few already colored and cut out from another project and then I added my phrase.

click the photo and it will take you to the More than words post...make sure you also check out scrapsalot  she has a little bit of everything!

Books are my Happy place! Lots of photos

* Warning lots of photos*

Here is my entry for the More than words challenge, I haven't played in my art journal for quite some time,I forgot how much I really enjoyed it!

this is "My favorite days start with Messy hair, books and coffee" those are my perfect days LOL I love sitting in the corner of my couch with a good book and a cup of coffee (ha the hair is always a mess) on cold days you grab the throw and get lost in your book for hours! but I also love to craft with books..I find them at the thrift stores or the dollar store. I try not to buy too many at one time LOL but habitat for humanity has such a huge collection of Old warn out books it's so hard not to grab a couple LOL

I started with a basic collage background using some of these really cool squares from this really cool book I got from the dollar store awhile ago...I loved the cover and thought it would be great as an altered book or even as a art journal the actual book is called the tile makes the room haha so it has all these really cool photos of different tiles and rooms...I just thought it was cool.

Like I said I used the squares around the edge of my page then in the middle I used torn up dictionary pages...I sketched my lovely lady on an old German cook book page (LOVE that one it even smells old)

you can see these elements in the photo below...I did add some distress texture paste crackleđź’–...when I first had the idea for this page, I was thinking an apricot color haha as you can see I didn't like it so much! So I added a watered down admiral blue then took a crumpled up paper towel and dabbed off areas that alone added so much texture

unnn yeah I haven't sketched anything in a Very very long time LOL but I was in the mood...shes not perfect but she's mine and you can only erase so many times on old paper LOL shhh..her eye on the left has a small hole in the paper hehe that's when I said enough was enough

I made a couple little books with the left over pages on my desk

okay I could probably ramble more but you can see the photos

*Stopped typing to take photo of book..LOL*

Thank you so much for stopping by and reading my ramblings!

keeping distracted

So I'm trying to distract myself...when I get stressed I tend to clean normally that's not a bad thing but when you think you broke the water heater from using too much Hot water you know it's time to cut back LOL

So instead I took it in the opposite direction and I made a crafty mess...I pulled out a couple colors that I love Peacock feathers and wilted violet...I used both distress oxide inks and sprays (both you can get from Scrapsalot shop) on these pretty tags

there was a whole lot of layering going on here...paper gesso texture paste ink sprays some more inks more paper then some embellishments...
when I first got the word board die-cut set I really had no idea what I was going to do with it other than a word board but I seem to use their alphabet die a whole lot...it comes in quite handy!
I entered this one in the challenge over at More than Words

thanks for coming by and checking out my new tags...stay safe and distracted!

when?

Just a quick share, I made a couple Atc's (Artist Trading Cards) for the mini-challenge over at more than words...the mini-challenge is done on Facebook so you can check it out here or go to their blog...

I love Atc's because I get to use up some scraps (I'm a hoarder of scraps I have two draws full) so between my art journal and ATC's I can make a dent in it LOL

I used a lot of distress oxides some really cool distress oxide sprays both of these can be found at Scrapsalot Debra carries lots of different colors. I wasn't sure about the sprays but the colors are very vibrant I even used them on the metal butterfly
the first layer was distress oxide inks just added randomly, I knew this was mostly going to be covered up.. then for my second layer, I used molding paste and a couple different stencils to give it some texture. I used my heat tool to make drying time faster. now for the fun part, I took the spray oxides but didn't actually spray then...I unscrewed the top and just dabbed a bit here and there then sprayed with water to move it around..let it get into the nooks and crannies LOL I kept doing this until I was satisfied while it was drying I was trying to narrow down my bits and pieces and trying to figure out how I was going to layer them.

** Done way ahead of time...I have a small container full I made fake enamel dots out of distress ink and clear Nuvo drops

 Items used from Scrapsalot shop
distress oxide inks wilted violet, peacock feathers
Distress oxide sprays  wilted violet, peacock feathers

Cosplay-More Than Words Challenge

This Month's challenge at More than Words made me laugh because as soon as I read the word Costume my daughter came to mind, she's really into cosplay...she designs and make all of her own costumes and in the last couple of years she's done commissions to make other peoples costumes which I think is super cool  of course I'm her mother so I think she's super talented LOL So that's how I used the word costume...I used this awesome photo of my daughter in one of her costumes...the black background(since I wanted this done in my journal) I used textured black cardstock and adhered it right onto my journal page!

to start my background I used gesso on top of the black, then some texture paste and mandala stencil on top of that I decided on another stencil called Radiant with some Nuvo glimmer paste (Tanzanite Lavender) I let that dry a bit haha coffee break...I pulled out both my distress oxide spray and ink in peacock feather I'm pretty sure that my favorite color in oxides!

Word Inspiration - COSTUME
Creative Challenge - BLACK BACKGROUND
Now comes the hard part for me...I really suck at the layering...this one was as hard as I thought it would be but I kind of planned everything around the photo and matched the pattern paper under it LOL
Distress oxide inks, sprays and Nuvo glimmer paste, Radiant stencil all came from the Scrapslot shop

all in all, I am super happy with how this turned out, I love the splatters and the colors...

Day 9 #thedailymarker30day

I did something a bit different...I did an art journal page haha I needed to color it anyway so I thought that would count as my day of coloring for the daily markers coloring challenge...

this is also a part of the Push your boundaries challenge number 8  Tear. (it's not really a challenge you kind of follow a prompt at your own pace) ..I started with a blank page...I tore up some papers...I love to tear book pages this one was an old dictionary and some scrapbook patterned paper LOL...I used dylusions sprays and a couple different stencils ...O wasn't really going for the red white and blue but it happened...I decided on a big border I traced the edge of a stencil to create the scallopy border and painted it black..I couldn't get my paint pen to work so I used a word stencil and white paint over the border and really liked how that looked. I used the image I colored in day 6 I thought it worked and found a quote I really liked (I actually have a small stack of them printed on tissue paper just for my projects LOL)

there we have it! I like it and it was fun and very messy!

thanks for coming by!

Something magical

My first try at no line coloring using Ink on 3 Fadeout ink that I received in my design team package from Scrapsalotllc.com they always send the coolest stuff! ... I am also using a stamp set from ink on 3 called  Magical unicorn..such a beautiful stamp and I just love unicorns... so first impression was I couldn't see it LOL well duh but I have pretty bad eyesight so I really couldn't see it so I stamped it more than once to get a good clear image...
So I did two different ones one in colored pencil and one in alcohol marker...I will admit it's going to take a whole lot of practice LOL heck I'm just getting used to coloring normal and now this LOL I will admit I like the colored pencils better at this point...I paired my Beautiful Unicorn with some pretty Rainbow papers from Honey bee stamps (also in the package)
I used the colored pencil version in my art journal...LOve how that turned out!

getting messy

So I just wanted to get a bit messy... it's been a while since I pulled out mists and just let go LOL that and I had some new stuff from Scrapsalot that I really wanted to play with...like Nuvo mousse which is wicked cool, I love the dimension and the shine is awesome...I used it like molding paste with a stencil and I also used it with my finger and water to make my flowers shimmer! I combined some old stash stuff with the new..the cute bee is a Free digi from Wonderstrange they have some really cool hand-drawn images...the Daisy stamp is from Stampendous.
Look at that shine...I think I am loving the Nuvo mousse the on;y drawback is the dry time LOL I'm a bit impatient haha

Fantasy and Wings

The word inspiration Fantasy and the creative challenge word wings seemed to go hand in hand for this month...the word fantasy made me think of fairies...as a little girl, I used to believe that fireflies/lightning bugs were little fairies. So I created a scene with little magic garden fairies.

More than words
https://morethanwordschallenge.blogspot.com/

I tried to capture the sparkle and shine, it was really hard with such poor lighting (it's been so cloudy for days here and I just couldn't put off taking the picture any longer or I'd forget LOL )

thanks for stopping by
