quick 3x3 Christmas cards

This year I made a few 3x3 cards to add to a small gift in place of a tag... here is just one design... I used the cute stamp set from Lawn Fawn HoHo holidays I love the cute Santa in this set!

to make my life easier I stamped all my images and scanned them to my silhouette portrait to be cut out (scan and cut cheapo version LOL) so I have a stack of images to choose from and it helps when you need that extra card

here is a sample of what I was talking about...I normally have just a couple but I did these for special Christmas cards I'm making with a friend so I was trying to get ahead of the game LOL as I was saying I'll keep at least one set in the back of the stamp set ready to go.

I kind of made my sentiment the focal point on my card because it kind of says it all LOL I love this stamp sentiment from Honey Bee-shake it off stamp set it has all sorts of coffee-related sentiments

 I used the awesome Tim Holtz stencil splatters for my coffee rings and some distress inks... I used waffle flower enamel dots and changed the color with alcohol markers ...So we have a kraft card base, a vintage book page (awesome find from our local restore habitat for humanity!!) put my white card front layer on then I die cut a piece of DCWV corrugated paper using a spellbinders card creator die for my final layer...

 yeah yeah, maybe one of these days I'll get the hang of describing houtI put my cards together...I'm guessing today isn't that day! I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend and make sure you check out the Scrapsalot shop!

I think I found a new love! Inkon3 has some of the cutest stamps but this little raccoon had stolen my heart...between this one image and the one where he is holding the cup of coffee they are just so versatile...and don't get me started on the sentiments in the set!..one of my favorite ... this is just one of several cards I've made recently using this set ...

Sorry here is another one for the Simon Says Stamps Monday challenge!

I love how this one turned out, there was a lot of distress inks used to create the background...kind of mushed it into my craft mat and got it wet then smushed my paper on it LOL very messy but fun I did dry in between layers so I didn't get mud! I used a shifter stencil for the panel with more distress ink, of course, my favorite colors salty ocean and peacock feathersI'm pretty sure everything except the rectangle stitched die is from Tim Holtz or/and ranger ...haha my goto products!

Happiness

This months word inspiration at More than words was so easy...Happiness...the first thing I thought of was little V she brings our family so much happiness and she's the perfect subject for a layout! I was going to use a simple square frame in the middle but then I thought I really wanted a place that V's Mom could write some stuff .So I went through my Junkie draw, it's full of odds and end and embellishments..I spotted the card kit my secret sister gave me a couple months ago from stamping up...

Animal magic

soi thought I'd just right into the new Monday challenge over at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge
 This week its Animal Magic...  so here is my entry...

I also did a bit of water coloring with distress inks to create my background...I'm surprisingly pleased with how it turned out LOL  Sentiment is from a stamp set from My creative time Called thanks for the lift, the little squirrel is one of the very first stamps I bought and I got it from Walmart LOL and its still one of my favorites..😀

Distress ink water coloring

Happy Monday my crafty friends...thought I'd share a super quick water colorish type card....It was really easy...I started off with a piece of watercolor paper (the really cheap kind from Walmart) I used my new stamp from Honeybee stamps that I got from Scrapsalotllc.com actually everything except the paper and embossing powder is from there! anyway, I stamped using vera mark ink and used Ranger's black embossing powder and quickly embossed it with my heat gun. I think it took me longer to figure out which colors distress inks I wanted to use.... I went with Salty ocean, seedless grapes, and peacock feathers

I smooshed the inks on my mat then add a generous amount of plain water around my sentiment then took a wet brush and picked up some of the ink off my mat, I did one color at a time adding more water when needed. I used my heat tool to dry between layers..I just kept playing with it until I liked how it looked. It did warp a bit but I put in under something heavy overnight and in the morning it was fine. I added some black ink droplets/splatters then trimmed it and adding it to a basic 5 1/2x 4 1/4 note card added some enamel dot and sequins and the card is done!

One thing leads to another

Happy Friday!! I hope you all have a fabulous weekend...they are calling for a scorching week here :( not too happy about that...warm is good but NOT this HOT LOL

So I wanted to share a project I did late last night into this morning...it all started with wanting to color a seahorse for the daily marker 30-day coloring challenge...and one who doesn't know about that can find it here...

 so this little guy started it... I think the reason I love cardmaking/crafting is you get to use your imagination... I have stamps of sea creatures (sets I used  Hero arts-color layering waves and Photoplay-fish tales) but no plants or anything else to make a scene. so I had to think a little outside the box LOL I have a ton of cheapo stamps from Joanns so I pulled out a couple leaf ones and used them as seaweed and such...haha one thing leads to another and all of a sudden I was making another circle with another seahorse with lots of ink blending I mixed between distress oxides and plain distress inks...and a huge mess LOL Most of the supplies used came from my favorite crafty supply shop Scrapsalotllc.com

 Here is my first card...

 It's funny you start off with one idea and then you have thousands running through you head LOL...and here is my second card.... by the time I was done I had blue ink on everything!

Creative ideas

First I'd like to take a moment and that Debra from Scrapsalot...without her and her new design team I wouldn't have some of the wonderful tool/toys to play with...so thank you so very much...being on your team has been a blast so far!
So now that is out of the way I have to ask...Do you dream about project ideas? I know I do...My problem is remembering them when I get up LOL okay so I had a dream about this wicked cool die from Hero arts it's their beach frame fancy die  which by its self is really cool and pretty, I've made a couple different beach scene cards with it,

 but I like versatility when I buy crafty stuff I hold it in my hand and try to think of three things this could make before I but it LOL I know it sounds insane (drives my husband crazy) but I don't have a lot of space and I don't want a bunch of just too look at it. Now die's are different especially this one since it came in my design team bundle...Yeah it's beautiful and it's intricate but its beach very specific LOL so back to the dream...it was about this die but when I woke I couldn't remember ...it drove me crazy for days until yesterday when it hit me...the top of the die reminded me of Fir tree (Christmas tree)

 Just look at that... it looks like your peeking through snow covered trees... is it sad I'm super excited about this... I think I just found my Christmas cards this year!
I justed lined up the die in the middle of my panel but only ran the top portion through my machine then took it out and turned the die around on the same panel... I tried to line it up... it lines up pretty well there is only one small section you'll have to cut with a craft knife... it's really really tiny though LOL

Now think of using the negative of the die cut you just did as a mask... ink around and over it in shades of green... haha I did it looks like a jungle... now I just need to add something in the center... I'll share that when I figure it out!

The best part about living close to the beach...ya know besides the swimming and sunbathing LOL was the sun rising and the beautiful sunsets...when I lived in Virginia we lived right across the street from the beach and if you were awake early enough you could watch the sunrise and see the dolphins playing...I always thought it was just something they would tell you to get the tourists in but its true LOL
Anyway, I loved my new die set from (the Scrapsalot shop) hero arts that I wanted to create a sunset scene...I used distress inks for the background squeezed lemon, spiced marmalade, pickled raspberry, fired brick and for the background sand, I used vintage photo Distress ink... I just played around until I liked the blending...I did lay my die panel over to see where I would be adding the sand ...I used the new embossing powder from hero arts called Sand it truly looks like sand which is so cool, when I lay the die panel you can see it through the pieces..this photo just doesn't do it justice. this is a very simple and quick card to make.

I must have taken this photo 30 times and couldn't figure out why it was blurry..haha but the sentiment wasn't...I had some funky shadows going on because I popped up the black frame on foam tape (insert big eye roll)

Missing the beach

I think this is the first beautiful day we've had in a while and it got me thinking I really miss the beach..the lakes here are great but when you were raised near the coast you kind of miss it! I miss walking along the shore...finding seashells and little sea critters!

well, I tried to recreate a beach scene using all the wonderful Hero arts goodies make it pretty easy...the waves stamp and the die cut go together so well...I also used the mermaid waves stencil in the background..what was really fun was the new embossing powders...Sand which really looks like sand without the mess LOL and sparkling sea...I used it on the tips of the waves...

Who's feeling Crabby?

I am so ready for the beach..well the lake will have to do LOL that's where the inspiration for my latest card for Scrapsalot came from...I decided to create a beach scene I wanted it to look like the little crab was walking down the beach...to be honest, it came out a lot better than I thought it was going to LOL I used a piece of computer paper as a mask...just cutting a squiggly line I made the sand darker towards the water and I tried to as some details with a white gel pen to the water. I colored the crab using colored pencils and some gamsol.

Trial and error

I have a new found appreciation for all the card-makers/crafters that take the time to mask even the smallest of images to create Fabulous cards! I have watched thousands of videos on card-making and stamping and am in awe of the creativity and effort each person puts into their cards. that being said I am still new to stamping, I've been making cards for a while now but mostly using my silhouette portrait and maybe a sentiment stamp or maybe even a single stamped image and a sentiment LOL Like I said I've watched other people do it using plain copy paper (tried that but I always end up crumpling up the paper and messing it up) the post-it note idea is really cool but all my post its are too small... I've seen that neat sticky paper for masking but I didn't have any on hand then it dawned on me yesterday when I was trying to make clouds that I have two huge rolls of painters tape hubby bought! (for a project that never got done LOL) so I tried it with the clouds and LOVED the results...that made me brave haha I pulled out a couple simple stamps (polar bear because they didn't need to be colored much) and trees! Talk about mix and match haha I used five different stamps from 3 different companies!
now came the hard part...stamping on tape and fussy cutting the tiny images....

I took my time...which by the way people who do this all the time WOW! I don't know how you have the patience. It's not so bad once you have the masks all cut out then its just a matter of placing them, Oh and make sure you stick it to your shirt before you put it on your card you really don't need it that sticky LOL!
So here is the first one I did.

On this one I learned I needed to wait for the ink to either dry on the masking or wipe it off, you can see some of the green kind of blended in the snowy area on the right and I need to make sure my hands are clean before touching the card! I have a bit of green here and there from where I touched green ink but since I used a bigger piece of paper to start with it was mostly cut off woohoo me! So I was really encouraged by the end I didn't mess it up too bad so I added it to a card base and really liked the end results ( haha this one goes to my Daughter!)

So I slept on it and this morning I wanted to try again...with a bit more knowledge I made this one with no smudging! I tried to space my trees a bit better. I did notice I didn't get the masking just right on the green scarf but I'm okay with it there are no big blobs of it and the bears don't have (much) blank white space around them! I just need to remember for next time to double check the masking placement next time!

All in all, I call this a success!

Week #289 One Layer

Its one layer card week over at Less Is More and the theme is French....Don't laugh but the first though was french bread LOL second thought was the Eiffel Tower...so I went with the second thought...the only saw one problem,the stamp I have of the Tower is only 2 inches. I am all for the whole Less is more thing but I thought it needed a bit of color so I went with the colors of their flag (blue white and red) I looked it up just to be sure LOL I just used my stamping block and swiped my distress markers across...spritzed a bit of water...instant color!

Muse Challenge #173

I haven't played along with the Muse challenge in awhile....I always forget to go back and vote LOL but I thought I'd play along this week....Anita's card is just gorgeous!
I took inspiration from the inky background and the silhouette image on Anita's card.... I used Tim Holts distress inks,they seem to work the best for me since I have issues blending so I went for coverage then sprinkled with water..I like the blotchy look!
I used a stencil from the crafters workshop called Mini birds of a feather (now don't laugh but as I was looking at my card as I'm writing this I noticed something missing! I had to mask a lot of the stencil because it had a bunch of bird cages but I only wanted one on the branch...I totally forgot I wanted that on cage LOL and didn't realize I hadn't inked that part of the stencil until just now! )
Anyway I really like how it turned out!

One layer Simplicity challenge No19

I wanted to play along with the new challenge over at One layer Simplicity challenge....Challenge #19 Strip Down.. I used my Tim Holtz  stencil called rays with some distress inks(squeezed lemon and evergreen bough)...I've been wanting to use these cute lil birds from Alley way stamps the set is called lighter than air...they worked perfectly for this card!

Watercolor Cards

I was in the mood to make a mess so I spread out a couple plain white (heavy weight) cardstock on my table (cut to fit the front of a card) pulled out of random water colors and just splattered them all over...once I was happy with the amount of splattered I misted with water just a little so it spread out....I let dry....yes I got impatient and pulled out the heat gun but the papers curled :( I really hate that LOL

 when it was dry....enough lol I used distress ink and what ever odd stamps I had on my desk and randomly stamped.....lightly misted again.....not much.....

when they were dry I added a sentiment and some ribbon/lace and mounted them to a piece of cardstock then mounted to my card base.....I am loving how they turned out!
